The Riders do as the beasts do--that is to say, the Beasts they ride. Beasts eat the roots of plants with poisonous leaves, so Riders evolved to withstand the poison and eat the leaves. Beasts don’t need clothes or shelter, so Riders are tough to survive the outdoors. And Beasts don’t know or care what heterosexuality is, so Riders don’t care either. They find love where they can, and they accept that companion partnerships aren’t always the same as reproductive partnerships.
