feotakahariThat was a really clever, really annoying approach to the twist from Undertale.
The villain figured out that the player exists, and concluded that you must hate Ending A as much as she does. So she made robot duplicates of the characters over and over for hundreds of years in order to create alternate “routes” for you to go down, planning to finish with an ending that’s actually satisfying. Thing is, she thought she was the PC and you’d act through her to determine your choices. When you acted through the actual PC, your knowledge of prior routes let him do things he wasn’t supposed to be able to do, letting him finish up with an ending that’s incredibly unsatisfying, but at least prevents her from pulling this shit again. Out of 144 characters across the routes, at best 3 of them got happy endings, and there’s nothing you can do to fix that.
(So from an in-universe perspective, you could have saved a lot of suffering if you’d given up in frustration after ending A.)
