Suppose you’re on one of those highways that has ads for alcohol and signs begging you not to drive drunk. You take a photo that contains both signs. Did you create art, or did you document the art inherent in the signs’ placement?
Or suppose you’re translating a story into another language. In a sense, you’re documenting the story for a new audience. But you’re also making artistic choices about how to translate phrases and concepts that wouldn’t be clear to your audience.
