What did Medusa look like?
Not some monster with snakes for hair. That’s not the ugliest thing in the world. The ugliest thing to see is your Shadow in the mirror. Those who wished to kill her were devoured by their own hatred. Those who wished to save her drowned in self-gratifying pity. That’s why a mirror killed Medusa, because she realized she was a Shadow, with no self besides what others saw in her.
You’ve let others define yourself into oblivion. You’ve been their monster or their victim, all based on what they saw in your scars. But you’re the one who survived the weight of the world. You’re the one who won’t break from hatred or condescension, and you certainly won’t break from a Shadow. I am thou, yet not thou. A suit of armor against their knives. A mirror that hides your true self from the world. A Persona.
“Come, Medusa!”
