Come to think of it, Harry Potter isn’t that unusual. Wizard’s Hall and this one godawful series called T-Witches were the only “young people doing magic” books I read when I was a kid that didn’t have shitty messages for kids. (I count Year of the Griffin as shitty for its “logical people are the real illogical people” bullshit, and I never read Circle of Magic.)
