Thoughts on Mad Rat Dead

That was an interesting study in contrasts.
Part of what makes Mad Rat “mad” is that he can ignore his instincts. He can fight when everything is telling him to run, or make peace with what his instincts tell him is an enemy. The other rats are content with the lab, because they get food there and are safe from predators, and their instincts don’t push them for more. Mad Rat can look beyond that and decide his own goals in life.
The Rat God doesn’t understand why someone wouldn’t obey their instincts. Everything she wants is instinctual, and everything she does supports an instinctual goal. She’s immensely powerful, yet in her own way, she’s enslaved, because she can’t reevaluate or make new goals.
