This is why I hate a lot of political/racial humor. If I go “okay, there’s clearly some kind of serious message under the joke, but I don’t know what it is because the joke is so extreme,” people just keep responding with the extreme joke and will never give their actual opinion no matter how hard I try. With racial humor in particular, there’s this two-step where people often behave like the joke is their actual belief even while acknowledging it’s too over-the-top to be anything but a joke.
