A spin on that “hard times make hard men” quote: hard times promote the skills of harder men, and soft times promote the skills of softer men. When hard men protest that soft men are promoted, they’re failing to win at the game that’s currently being played, and saying that it would be better to play a different game that they’d win at. In other words, they’re scrubs.
