There’s this post that goes around sometimes that says villains are better love interests than heroes, because if a hero has to choose between saving you and saving the world, he’ll save the world instead of you. To me, that post seems dumb. I wouldn’t sacrifice the world to save myself, so why would I want someone else to sacrifice it to save me?
It didn’t even work! N declared his intent to start over with a new M who lacked the last one’s memories. He’d have his perfect eternity whether M wanted it or not, because M was his property, to use as he pleased.
All M wanted was to live out her happy life with N for however long that would last. All N wanted was to keep M to himself forever. To revive M, N destroyed everything she cared about. He forced her to live off the life force of others, and took away the possibility of her committing suicide to spare them. When she finally found a way to die, she admitted that a part of her still wanted to live, but her death was the only thing she could think of to shock N out of his course of action.
