 Game: Do you want the happy ending or the depressing ending?

Me: The happy ending, I guess? Why would I want the depressing ending?

Game: Just as well. The happy ending was the one we put all the effort into.

Me: So why even make such a perfunctory, anticlimactic depressing ending?

Game: So our Steam page can say “your choices have consequences.”

Sometimes I actually prefer the depressing ending, but even then it seems like the devs cared less about it than I did (e.g. Heart of the Woods.)
