A response I wrote to a post about how Harry/Draco shipping always downplays Harry’s snark:
I think it’s a consequence of opposites-attract shipping. Draco is the Bad Boy, so he gets to snark. By opposition, Harry becomes the Good Boy, so he can’t snark because snarking is Bad.

When he’s shipped with Makoto, fics play up her calm, disciplined chessmaster side, and ignore the parts where she’s also hilariously awkward. (Cop and Robber, one of the better Joker/Makoto fics, plays up both Makoto’s awkwardness and Joker’s refusal to admit when he’s in over his head, so they’re different on the surface and alike underneath.)
