These devs seem kinda at odds with themselves. They’re deliberately avoiding “humans good, monsters evil,” but they also make no excuses for the main villain’s use of mind control. Most of the monsters on the island either joined her willingly, or got brainwashed so hard they can never be freed, so there’s one free survivor who has to bear the entire burden of showing that monsters aren’t all bad.

The rest of the gray comes from portraying the human church as equally terrible.
