Cannot overstate how much I hate trans fiction where some powerful being forces you to turn into a woman because you’re incapable of admitting you want it. My sense of spite ends up wanting the target to fight back and win. It matters to me that you choose what to do with your own body.

Bonus complaint inspired by a different story: I can’t believe we’re still doing the thing where you turn into a woman because you have a “woman’s soul.”

One revelation that was only briefly discussed, but that I still have no idea how to evaluate: the Goddess made Hannah suffer years of dysphoria.

The thing about shit like The Conversion Bureau or later-era Monster Girl Encyclopedia is that they want to portray all the transformed as freely choosing to join up with the faction that transformed them, but they also want to portray all the transformed as joining up. It’s tempting to write a “realistic” fic where the MC refuses to side with the folks who violated her bodily autonomy. But realistically, the transformed faction wouldn’t expect transformed people to all side with them unless they knew it worked that way, which pretty much has to involve mind control.

(I think Chatoyance squared this circle by saying humans don’t have souls and get souls when they become ponies. Chatoyance is creepy.)

Come to think of it, I only lasted through a chapter or so of Chakona Space. How did it handle characters who turned into chakats?

There was this children’s movie once where one of the characters is a dog who hates being in dog shows because he hates when the judges touch his balls. His arc is about learning to dissociate and not be mentally “there” so he’s okay with having his balls touched. The general public reaction to this movie was shock and outrage. People were appalled that this movie was teaching children to ignore when their bodily autonomy was being violated.

So bodily autonomy is a “real” thing that the average person can be made to understand. It’s just that a lot of people have a very specific idea of what is and isn’t bodily autonomy, and they don’t take you seriously if your bodily autonomy needs are different from theirs. Those people are assholes.
