Jan. 5th, 2023 10:42 pmDavion is such a good summary of the overall politics of Star Renegades, and I say this despite how much the game mocks him. It’s like when conservatives are weirdly good at criticizing people who’re slightly more conservative than them.
Davion wants to be a good person, and he does it by following all the rules he’s been taught for what a good person does. A good person tolerates others, and so does he. A good person follows the law, and so does he. He gives land acknowledgements, because that’s what he’s supposed to do, but then doesn’t do anything in service of giving the land back, because the people around him don’t. He thinks mind control is justified if the government uses it as a punishment, and he takes it for granted that whatever the government decides will be just, because they made the rules, didn’t they? He opposes the Imperium because they’re outside invaders, but it’s not hard to understand why the version of him in the Imperium’s home universe is their fanatical supporter. Davion can’t say or think anything that’s of his own design, because the developers also have nothing to say beyond generic liberal platitudes.
