I ultimately wasn’t a fan of Unepic, but I liked how it had two protagonists who are both ashamed of each other.

On the one hand, you have Daniel, who cares about helping people, but has no honor or dignity. He seeks pleasure where he can find it, fights dirty against villains, and has no idea what TMI means. He’s a hero by Utilitarian standards, and a Guybrush Threepwood-esque antihero by most others.

On the other hand, you have Zeratul, who kills intruders for his master. He can’t kill Daniel directly, so he lies and tries to manipulate Daniel to kill him indirectly. He has no real morals in common with Daniel, but he does have an intense, somewhat hypocritical pride. He looks down on dirty tactics, is disgusted by bodily pleasure, and thinks helping other people instead of killing them is a waste of time and resources.

Zeratul is disgusted when Daniel wants to have sex with orcs. Daniel is disgusted when Zeratul wants to use orcs as living shields. Daniel thinks Zeratul is a jackass, but is honestly trying to be friends with him and find some good side to him. Zeratul thinks Daniel should just fucking die already. It’s great.
