Some more thoughts on Haven

Erena absolutely believes that the society they have is better than any alternative. She calls Yu and Kay “selfish,” because they’ve inspired other rebels, and their society will fall apart once rebellion spreads. The more I think about this, the dumber Erena sounds. There are always going to be people who try to subvert whatever system you set up! A functional society is one that can continue regardless of subversion attempts! If Yu and Kay don’t bring it down, the next couple will, or the one after, or the one after that! And if Yu and Kay can’t actually bring it down, and Erena is massively overstating how fragile their society is, then what exactly is the problem?

Is it just me, or is this cult discourse kind of circular? I mean, if cults want to isolate you from your friends and have you just listen to the cult leader . . . And then some person shows up and tells you you’re in a cult and you need to get out now, and he wants you to isolate from your “cultist” friends and only listen to him . . .
