Sep. 10th, 2021 09:28 pmSome Dead by Daylight fic thoughts. I’m never actually writing this, because I don’t write grimdark anymore, but it’s fun to get the thoughts out. Feel free to cannibalize any of this you want.
The survivors have been doing too well, and the killers hardly ever get kills anymore. So the Entity grabs all the most ruthless or morally ambiguous survivors and plonks them down on a new map. No hooks, no killer, but lots and lots of weapons. The ground at the edge of the map is crumbling into the abyss. Battle Royale mode, bitch!
Maybe they don’t kill anyone that first time around. Maybe they all fall into the abyss and learn there’s something even more painful than the hooks down there. But the Entity gets what the Entity wants, so it keeps summoning the same folks back to the same map. And it’s happy to reward those who give in to its threat, giving them progressively more lethal powers to mold them into its new killers.
I’m thinking Min as protagonist, and Yun-Jin as the primary threat. Min is shocked to realize the Entity thinks she belongs in this—she knows folks like Quentin wouldn’t be potential killers, but she never thought of herself as that ruthless in comparison. There’s also someone who genuinely doesn’t belong (Nea? Claudette?), and Min impulsively joins up with her to keep her from being completely steamrolled. It becomes a push-pull—does Min kill to protect her, or spare to keep from disappointing her?
The question, of course, is how to end it without being depressing as hell. The closest thing I can come up with is sacrifice—Min becomes the new killer specifically so her companion won’t have to. But again, that’s not something I’d want to write.
