I used to post on the same forum as a former advertiser. He made his living through the misuse of statistics, so he reacted with hostility any time someone attempted to use statistics as evidence. According to him, statistics can be used to say anything, so they shouldn’t be used at all. He preferred individual anecdotes, since those weren’t statistics, which somehow meant they weren’t bad.

Some people are immune to good arguments and prefer bad ones. That doesn’t mean the bad arguments are actually good. That means those people are irritating.
