Folks are beginning to recognize the “theft” switcheroo. “Theft” normally describes things that people think of as bad, so if you took something good, and you found a way to change words around so you could refer to it as “theft,” you used to be able to make people think good things are bad. But people are still falling for the “pedophile” switcheroo. Anything innocuous and harmless can be made into a terrifying threat if you can somehow use the word “pedophile” in relation to it.
