feotakahariAzure Striker Gunvolt starts you off with a necklace that gives this game's equivalent of mana shield. Most of the other necklaces take it away, and you're heavily encouraged to just learn how to dodge.
You don't need to, of course. I kept that necklace throughout the entire game, tanking everything the bosses threw at me. Forget high scores! I just want to beat the story mode!
I got the bad ending. In order to get the true ending, you need a different necklace with no shield.
