Omegaverse, but the economy isn’t good enough to support a non-worker class, so everyone has to multitask during heat cycles. 9:30 AM Zoom meetings with mandatory facecams just got even MORE awkward.

...they started pushing remote work a lot earlier and a lot harder than we did, because people are a lot more productive (relatively, anyway) when they can't smell their coworkers' pheromones.

(...alternatively, they accidentally defeated a respiratory plague because it's standard practice to wear pheromone-blocking respiratory protection when you're trying to be functional during heat, and it turns out the filters block viruses as a side effect.)
