I guess this is what cognitive dissonance feels like. The actual argument my brain is constructing for why this must be a conspiracy theory isn’t anything to do with plausibility, because the news has beaten me down so thoroughly that even the most ridiculous atrocities no longer sound implausible. It’s that if I believed it, I would have to believe that the American government is so thoroughly evil that it cannot be cleansed without violence. It's unlikely in that the Obama administration was generally friendlier to finance companies and banks than oil companies. If the allegation was that he'd had people killed for a bank's interest I'd be more inclined to believe it.
