Deeply contradictory take that keeps popping up: “You say you have a mental illness, but you don’t. You’re just crazy.”

Mori: I think that argument is basically, "mental illness = medical problem," "crazy = personal failing." I think it's shorthand for, "you're not sick, you're just a failure as a human being."

Obviously, I'm contractually obligated to be offended, but I also think it says something very interesting about the social categorizations of mental illness vs. madness, and also how some folks see other folks.
