There’s this story called “Buffalo Gals Won’t You Come Out Tonight” that’s based around the idea that animals are manifestations of a single animal spirit, e.g. every spider is an instantiation of Spider. That story kinda offended me, because it treated killing an animal as a form of violence against the spirit, but didn’t really treat it as killing. You can kill as many spiders as you want, but you haven’t killed Spider. I feel like that’s just an out you can use so you don’t feel guilty about eating meat.
