I once wrote a post about what I disliked about Diane Duane’s stories. Duane found it, and one of the things she said in response was that I shouldn’t put something on the Internet unless I’d put it on a billboard. I’ve thought about it, and I’ve decided I’d put on a billboard that Duane’s an idiot.

As someone who recently read a couple of Duane's books in a row, I'd like to know what you said about her stories!

I do feel like that's one of the most horrible ideas that Duane put into that series. The fact that the younger the wizard you are, the more powerful you are, but you're completely unequipped to survive the trial. I think it's in the second book (or the third? I stopped reading after that.) that she straight up says that most child disappearances are young wizards who have died. She goes on to add that only a small percentage ever make it to old age and that's why there's so few wizards on Earth. I'm guessing the whole point was to show how special Neeta and Kit are but it sure makes it seem like all the other kids on the planet aren't worth a spit.
