So I stopped caring about Kingdom Hearts pretty quickly

 I’ve been reading meta, and there are people who are disappointed that KH3 devoted so little time to some of the major characters.

Of course, there are the three islanders, friends who wield magical blades. They need screentime.

And there’s the Disney heroes, Donald, Goofy, and Mickey. They need screentime.

Then there are the three heroes from the prequel game. They need to have their story wrapped up.

And there are the various former pawns and minions of the villain. There were fourteen of these people back when I still cared, and at bare minimum four of them are important.

And apparently those three kids Roxas befriended at the start of Kingdom Hearts 2 are actually plot-important?

You know, maybe if Kingdom Hearts had resolved some plot threads earlier, they wouldn’t have had to rush so much to clean up loose ends.

My sole exposure to Kingdom Hearts has been attempting to play through the first game with our little bro, back when it first came out. I remember I caved pretty quickly and the game became his, so my memory is very scattershot.

Having other people try to explain the game's story to me since then has felt like someone trying to explain a very long, super-involved crossover fanfic that is a HUGE DEAL and that I only read the first chapter of.

At the point I got to, I didn’t think the story was really all that complicated. The cosmology’s a little unusual, but there’s a lot of duality, so when you understand half of it, you understand the other half.

Then I found out that the later games have time travel, and we all know that the easiest way to completely muck up your continuity is to add time travel.
